Wines Win Gold in France
Eight Ontario Icewines were awarded
gold medals at the prestigious Citadelles Du Vin in Bordeaux, France, marking
the first time that one wine region has ever won this number of gold medals in
one category at the wine competition. The Icewines competed in the dessert
wine category.
Royal DeMaria Wines of Vineland, Ontario, won five of the eight gold
medals awarded to Ontario wines. It is also the first time in the
competition’s history that one winery has been awarded five gold medals in one
category.

The impressive success of Ontario at this year’s Citadelles Du Vin in
France demonstrates the fact that Ontario is established as one of the world’s
great wine regions. Our Icewines are recognized as the world’s best, and
widely regarded as among the world’s very finest dessert wines, if not the
finest. Ontario possesses the perfect conditions for this internationally
acclaimed wine — a long, hot growing season, the right soils and
microclimates, and winter temperatures sufficiently cold enough to freeze
grapes,” said Linda Franklin, President of the Wine Council of Ontario.
Formerly known as the Civart Trophy, the Citadelles du Vin is an annual
wine competition that is held and organized within the framework of Vinexpo,
the most prestigious wine and spirits exhibition in the world. -CNW”
